Ways to Motivate Students

For this Blog Post, I would like for you to come up with a few ways to motivate students in the classroom. You might want to think about ways that would encourage both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Also, explain whether or not you feel this will be a challenge for you, the classroom teacher.

Motivating students in a classroom is a very important thing as a teacher. Teachers always want their students coming into class excited. A few ways you could encourage students intrinsicly is by leaving them little comments on their papers saying how well they did or how well they answered a question. You could also tell them how well they are doing in class. A few ways you could extrinsicly motivate you could tell the kids if they all get A's on a test they could get an extra recess. Sometimes if they answer correctly in like big group they can get a piece of candy. I do not feel like this will be a challenge for me because, I love being around students and helping them succeed in life and being able to get good grades. I am excited everyday I go into my preschool class so I believe it will be easy for me to help motivate my students.

I feel that when you are positive, hard working teachers, the students you have see that and they feel comfortable in your classroom. Just being in a positive atmosphere can change a student’s perspective and cause intrinsic motivation. If a teacher is always happy and having fun but also staying on task, it shows the students that they can have fun but stay on task also.
Extrinsic motivation can lead to intrinsic motivation in the long run, because it could do many things like break the barrier between the teacher and student. Having something to motivate students while doing their work can help them stay on task. If I were using extrinsic motivation, I would probably use extra credit as a reward, or having class outside on a nice day.

Kids getting something in return for doing work will work harder. Like having a party, giving them a candy or extra recess is extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic would be the easiest way to motivate kids because they get to see their reward and have fun. Boosting their confidence, telling how well they are doing, or telling how smart they are intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic would be harder because some kids don’t believe the teacher when they say them things to them, they never heard it. The biggest challenge would be intrinsic for me but I would try to use it more than extrinsic.

Students need positive attitudes around them if you want them to be motivated. You need to give them compliments and be there when they need help. All kids have issues sometimes if its school or even personal problems. You're the person that has to be positive the most because the children are looking up to you. You have to let them know you're there for them and you’re going to help them with whatever they need or they will just give up without asking questions. Extinsic would be a bad idea because your bribing the students and they will never do their work unless you give them candy or anything else. Its better to be intrinsic and to give them positive complements then to bribe them.

Give the kids compliments like Hey good job or that was great of you are doing great. Kids respond to you better if you are nice to them rather than bribes. Bribes only work for so long and then you have to figure another way around it. If you make them feel good by compliments. If you bribe them it opens up the doors for some problems. Kids think you pick favorites and stuff like this. Its better to keep it wide open.

Keeping a student motivated and happy is very important. I would motivate my students by telling them good job, and always bringing their spirits up. When I work with the ESL kids at my school they get upset when they don't know some word. I just tell what is is and make them laugh. Ways to encourage intrinsic and extrinsic is complimenting them and giving them good behavior days just because you are proud of them. I don't feel that this will be a problem for me because I like being a positive person. I like bringing a persons pride up when they are down. My classroom will always be happy and positive.

Motivation in classrooms is a key component to success in modern day learning environment. It gets the students excited and wanting to learn, increasing your success rate tremendously. Intrinsic motivation will be easy, like writing on a student’s paper, good job, great work, and you’re smart. Things like this encourage your student to keep working. On the other hand extrinsic motivation really can motivate your students to strive toward a common goal. These can be examples like if everyone get a B then they can bring on a snack and drink one day. Anything in those criteria is motivational. Motivation and inspiration is a big help and key component in any students learning ability.

I think compliments are always good. Always tell students when they are doing well, or if they go above and beyond expectations. That's a way to motivate intrinsicly. I would also put stickers on all A papers and homework. I know that I still get happy whenever I see a sticker on my paper. I personally think intrinsic motivation is better than extrinsic. Saying that you'll give the students candy or extra recess is like bribing. It's good sometimes though. The main thing is to be an optimistic teacher though. And I don't really think that it will be a challenge for me. I try to give compliments to people as much as I can anyway.

I think there is many ways to motivate students in the classroom both intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation would be harder to get all your stundents to do because it is within you. I would try to increase their intrinsic motivation by telling them how good they are doing and keeping a positive attitude towards them, I would also write notes on their test and homework to tell them how they are doing. Extrinsic motivation would be a lot easier to motivate the students by giving them candy and throwing parties to them. Also I think in the long run extrinsic motivation will turn into intrinsic motivation. I do not think it would be hard for me to motivate my students in both ways.

I think that motivating your students is a very important thing as being a teacher. Students always feel better when their teacher's encourage them in many different ways. A few ways you could motivate your students intrinsically is by putting little comments on their papers that lets them know you are actually taking your time and reading and understanding their work. Another way is by telling them that they are doing very well and to keep up their work even if you don’t believe it at first. A few ways you could motivate your kids extrinsically could be very fun. One way is by giving students a NO HOMEWORK pass if they turn in all their homework each nine weeks. This will encourage them to turn in their homework each and every day. Another way is by telling them by saying you will throw them a party at the end of the year if everyone gets all A's. This is how I think I would motivate my classroom.

Being a motivational teacher is very important when it comes to teaching. As a teacher I think that it would be a challenge to motive some students. Some things that I would do would be to offer homework passes and candy or extra little things. Also I would motive them by encouraging them. I would write good job or great on their papers when they did well. Another thing I would do would be tell them I’m glad they’re in class that day.

Intrinsic motivation methods include telling a student they did a good job and encouraging the student to continue doing well. Always give positive reinforcement, and they will give more effort in return.
Extrinsic motivation methods include pizza parties, and homework passes for doing homework. Both methods are effective but extrinsic should be used more sparingly, while inrinsic motivation skills should be priortized.

I think that the classroom environment should have both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation tactics. Some students need to have the encouragement that they can do things and do them well. When student's turn in their homework they can get an extrinsic reward by getting a piece of candy, or having five extra minutes at recess. When a student's get good grades on tests write good things on their paper give them stickers, tell them that they did very well on the test. I really don’t think that this would be a challenge as long as I stick with it.
