Please reflect on your first week of observation. Explain the classroom environment, students, and some of the highlights during the week. Hope everyone had a wonderful time!
My first week in the second grade was amazing. The classroom is a very energetic environment. There are many posters and the kids work displayed on the walls. There are 18 students in the classrooom. Miss Alice said that was one of her largest classes she has had in years. The first day I was in a kinder Garten classroom and it was fun but I didn't get to do many things in that class. But in the second grade classroom I get to take lunch count every day and I have been helping grading papers and giving spelling tests. I got to experience chapel for the first time that was fun they sing a lot of christian songs and the kids enjoy it very much. I love this classroom it is really opening my eyes to see what teaching is really like and how well i really like the teaching porfessions.
My first week of observation was great. The Classroom is like a normal classroom. There is some students that never say a word but some students do not stop talking. When they do classwork together everyone participates. Some of my highlights were getting to jump right into helping the students and reading together with them. They have a positive environment they have the desks in the middle, the teachers desk in the front corner. Reading center which is my table in the back corner. Then the computers are in the corner beside me. There are book shelves all around.
My first week at Indian Hills Christian School in the 4th grade class has been very interesting. The students are quiet for being 4th graders and listen to the teacher very well. At recess they are active and hyper; hopefully they will bring some of it into the classroom. The environment of the classroom is positive and fun. The teacher has the students trust and has control of the classroom. She has a lot of games for learning which makes learning for them fun not boring. Like when they do math she has so many games for them everyone seems to understand, and if they don’t understand she helps them one on one. Some highlights of the week were learning division in math. Then from the Bible they were learning about Abel and Cain. I am looking forward to learning more about becoming a teacher.
I am in a kindergarten class at Central Elementary this rotation and I am with the teacher Mrs. Judy. The classroom is somewhat cramped but it's a very active learning environment. There are many resources and learning tools in the room for kids to learn mathematics and language. There are a lot of books and automated stories for learning to read and help their vocabulary. The class is always really energetic and the students are excited to learn. I feel this week went really well.
My first week at Central Elementary was great. I got to do cafeteria and recess duty, and while most of the teachers there did not seem to like either of these duties I really enjoyed them. I also enjoyed going over math problems on the board with the students. It was also surprising how quickly the students warmed up to me. On the second day when I walked in the class enthusiastically yelled out Mr. Gage!!! It was a fun experience and I am really looking forward to the next five weeks.
The environment is open in the kindergarten class and the teacher is so nice. The students are amazing. I walked into the classroom on tuesday and the kids were quiet but there was one boy who was so cute and asked me my name and what I was doing in their classroom. Then, yesterday, when I left the kids were all sad and said, "goodbye miss stocker." It is pretty sweet. One of the girls tells me she loves me everyday. She is so sweet. I really like the kindergarten classroom and I will want to return at the end of the year for my final rotation.
My first week at West Elementary was entertaining. When I first walked into the room I thought it looked fun. There are 15 girls and 6 boys in my class. They all were excited to see me everyday. It was one of the girls birthday and she brought in cupcakes for everyone. Also since today is Constitution day we had red, white, and blue popsicles to celebrate. I graded a lot of papers and helped the students in stations a lot also. The students were good most of the time but we did have a few who were trouble makers. I enjoy helping them, they are very entertaining, and Mrs. Hatfield is very nice. I am lokking forward to next week.
My first week in Mrs. Williams second grade classroom in Port Washington was very interesting. Brittany and I are both in the same hallway so we both had recess duty which was very fun. In class all the students liked me and wanted to know all about me. The classroom environment is crazy. The students are never boring! It is a little small because there is so many second graders this year, about 25 in a class. They learned a lot this week in their different classes. It is interesting to see how much they learn and how they all warmed up to me. I can't wait to see how the next 5 weeks go.
My first week at Midvale Elementary School was awesome. I got to help and interact with each student individually. I was shocked to see how quickly they accepted me and became used to me. One day I was getting ready to leave and one of them asked me to come to recess with them and they all got excited when I said I would. Then they all wanted me to play with them. It was a great experience and I can't wait till next week.
My first week in my 4th grade classroom was awesome! I had a great time getting to know the students and Mrs. Stafford even more than I already do. I got to experience some cool and awkward situations during the week. The first day I got stuck with cafeteria duty and recess duty. Both where loud and crazy! Throughout lunch the first day all the students where asking me questions and wanting to know my life story. Then at recess I had to watch the boys play football and at the same time play 4-square with the girls. It was really hard to try to please both groups. One of the activities I got to do was flash cards with math facts. The students get 20 seconds to complete like 10-12 math facts on flash cards. It was really hard to see the students get flustered when they missed a question and start to second guess themselves. When they would do this they wouldn't make it in time, it was hard to put that in words. Mrs. Stafford told me that you have to be brutally honest but reinforcing at the same time using intrinsic properties. I learned a lot just in this first week. I can't wait to go back and keep learning more things about teaching and students!
My first week in New Phila West elementary fourth grade was amazing. I love the students and they have really positive feedback when I am helping them. The first day I was there I actually was left alone with the class for twentyish minutes. Mrs. Host had to set up some things for the students during lunch. During this time I found out what their animal’s names were and their names. All of the students are nice and kind to each other which are always good because there is seldom any arguing, the afternoon class there was a spat yesterday but it was resolved.
My first week with Mrs. Peoples' fourth grade class was amazing. I loved it. The students gave me funny looks at first, but after I introduced myself and showed them my poster, they warmed right up to me. I actually used to baby sit one of the students; she recognized me before I recognized her. She gave me three hugs and told me that she had missed me. A little while later, a boy walked up to me, said, "you're cute," hugged me, and walked away. It was adorable. I haven't actually got to do much with the students yet. For the most part, I've been observing. I graded some papers and labeled a lot of books. I enjoy being in her classroom though.
My first week in Mrs.Burrier's class was very stressful. I think that it felt this way because my mentor teaching only thought that I was going to be in her room for only one day. After we got all the important things out of the way, everything went very smothly. The kids all asked me my name and they all showed a very good interest in me. As the week went on everything got better. There is a little boy in there that I used to babysit almost everyday in the summer and he knew me and that let the kids in the class know I was not such a bad person. Also my little neighbor girl is in that class and that also helped. But, overall everything went very well and I am excited for my second week!
I am a teacher at Buckeye Career Center! This is my 10th year of teaching; however, it's my third year as the Teaching Professions instructor. I am a graduate of Kent State University where I received my degree in Social Studies Education. I have also attained my Master's degree in Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction through Walden University. I have been married for ten years. My husband and I have two children, Chloe and Carson. We are also expecting our third child in January.
