Interviews

One of the assignments this week was to conduct interviews with the middle school students. Please explain the following: How did the students respond to you? What were some of the answers that you asked? Describe their overall feeling towards school. How did these students compare to those that we learned about in our Yardsticks book?

The students just went with it and answered the questions, they asked me what the interview was for and I told them then they answered the questions on it. I asked one student how they feel about school and she told me, "There are a lot of things that I feel should be changed... to many to name." They compared very closely to the mylabschool interviews and were similar to the Yardsticks books.

The students responded to me and the interview in a postitive way. I asked about their family, animals, what sports they liked to play best, and questions about school. Both of the students overall feelings toward school was positive. The boy student said school was "cool." I think that the students really compared to the Yardsticks book. The difference between the boys and girls are really noticable and I think you can tell how big the differences are. I really enjoyed interviewing the students. Seeing the differences between the two were interesting.

The 2 students that I interviewed responded to me very well. They were very open minded while I was asking them there questions. Some of the questions I asked were; 1. Who is your hero? Why? 2.Do you live with both of your parents or in separate households? 3. How do you like being a middle school student? Those were some of the questions that I ask the two students that I interviewed. The students that I interview really like school. They enjoy the classes that they have and they enjoy having different teachers every period. The students are just like the things we learned from the yardstick book. All the eighth graders that I have just want everything to be about them. They will do anything to get attention wither it be good or even bad enough to get them into trouble.

The students responded very well with me. They were very willing to answer any questions that I had and they never had an attitude or acted like they didn’t want to be taking part in it. Some of the questions that I asked were; what is one thing that worries you? Are you in any sports?, Describe your family. The students overall felling towards school was that they liked it. The young lady said that she enjoyed it because she liked to be challenged and that why she loved school. The young man however, enjoyed school but he said that he wished that some teachers would come up with new concepts to get them motivated and want to do well. For the most part yes, the students did relate to the Yardsticks book. The young girl was more mature whereas the young boy hadn’t reached his full maturity level yet.

During my interviews, students reacted well to it and they didn't mind it. Some of the questions I asked were: what’s your friends and family like?, how do you feel about school?, what do you want to be when you get older? The boy thought it was just alright and the girl said it was hard. The girl fit the description from the Yard Stick books but the boy really didn't.

I interviewed 4 students instead of 2 so I could get more of a variety of answers also to see the difference between advanced and regular students. They all responded well to me but one student had other things on his mind instead of the interview. The boy was upset about something and I tried to help him claim down so I could help him. Beside of what happened with the one student the others were very open and was happy to answer any question. Some of the questions I asked where about school, themselves, and how they feel toward certain things. The students didn’t have to same feelings towards school the student in advanced care deeply about school while the girl in regular classes was more concerned what happens around her like drama. Some of there answers was like the Yardstick book but none was completely like the book. I am very happy I got to interview these students because I learned much more than I thought I was going to.

The two students I interviewed were excited about interview. I asked them about themselves and school. The boy told me that he wanted to go to school to be a scientist or a lawyer. He enjoys going to school and reading. The girl said she wants to be a teacher or something dealing with kids. She loves school and reading also. These two students are kind and smart. They compared to the kids in the Yardstick book very well.

I interviewed a boy and girl at claymont junior high. They responded to me and were open about everything. Some of the questions I asked were "Do you have siblings and if you do whats their names?" I asked "What their favorite hobby is?" I asked "What is their favorite subject?" There were many other questions too. Both of the students had siblings. One of their favorite hobbies were hunting. Both of my students favorite subjects were math. These two students really communicated with me and shared stories with me.

I interviewed a 6th grade girl and boy. They were very open and willing to do my interview. I asked if they liked school, what do they do after school, if they played any sports, why they liked school or why not, how many people were in their family. The girl liked school and see her friends, and her favorite sport was basketball. The boy like school sometimes because he got to see his friends but did not like the school work. I think that the yardstick books explain the middle schoolers very well. Their attitudes were like the book explained it.

The students I interviewed were slightly skeptical at first. They just didn't seem very comfortable. The boy I interviewed gave very short answers, but was very honest. The girl I interviewed was really shy at first, but after I got her talking, she talked nonstop. She had a lot to say. She is one of the shy girls in class, so getting her to actually talk to me was nice. I asked the students about their family, siblings, pets, hobbies, and school. They both said that they like school sometimes. I asked them what they liked and disliked. They both said they like the teachers and dislike some other students. The boy I interviewed even talked about some of the other kids in his grade being mean, cussing, and using drugs. It was some what difficult trying to work around that part of the conversation. I think the boy student I interviewed related well with the Yardsticks book. The girl I interviewed, though, was almost the opposite. She didn't seem to care about the popular trends. She wasn't involved in cliques or anything. She doesn't seem to mind being different.

The students were excited about the interview. They were so excited. They do not like school other than gym class pretty much. They pretty much are similar. They are only interested in doing physical stuff not sitting in class.

I interviewed two students this week on boy and one girl, both the students seemed nervous at first but then responded very well. Both students answered all my questions in depth; the most important question I believe I asked was how they like did or dislikes the transition from elementary to middle school. Both students said they like the new found responsibility that they had now, but the whole switching of classrooms was hard to get used to. They both liked the middle school and enjoyed being there.
