Describe your mentor teachers teaching styles/methods. What type of activities do they use in the classroom that seem to be effective? How do the students respond?
My mentor teacher usually starts language arts class by reading the students stories and then asking students questions about what is or is about to happen in the story. Activities that seem to be effective are reading to students and group assignments. The students respond well and are very excited to contribute and share their ideas on stories and to relate their lives to the stories being told.
My mentor teacher does a lot of group activities. When they come in they play then have snack then either gym, swimming,or sign language. I think that it is very effective all the typical kids help the students with special needs and they all respond in positive attitudes. All the students are very excited to do activites and to do it in groups.
My mentor teacher likes the students working together. The students get their work done and keep on task if they work on their assignments how they enjoy too. The students get very excited if they have activities to work on with their assignments. Ex: When they do a subtraction or addition paper they get blocks to count with them. My mentor teacher lets the students work on what they are comfortable working on from previous lessons.
With this rotation I rotate during the day so each teacher does has their own methods. With my first teacher she has the kids do group activities, and do stations. My second teacher she has the kids work with items in groups to learn their cite words. Then my third teacher does the same thing my first teacher does. The students respond really well to the activities they do and they all enjoy doing them.
I love my mentor teachers' teaching styles. Their classrooms are very unstructured and the students do a lot on their own. They know when its time for recess and centers, and they go to their centers and work on their own. The students are good at working with eachother and are self oriented. A lot of the teachers dont teach the students at their desks. They spend a lot of time at the carpet and outside.
Mrs. Simmons is a very inspirational teacher that keeps the class very active, moving, and spontaneous, which keeps the students paying attention, listening, and most importantly learning while having fun. She uses the smart board and marker board every day, to do different games and activities with the students. Mrs. Simmons also has them in orations so they experience each activity, and it keeps them from getting bored with the activity they are on. The smart board allows us to choose a lot of different games and activities to teach the students from, making it most likely the most used and most effective tool used in the classroom!
All my mentor teachers use different techniques. Mrs. Hutmacher is very calm, so her students usually do what they are suppose to with being told only once. Mrs. Lenhart and Ms. Webb have similar techniques, expect they are slightly modified for the grade level. The students they have are very well behaved and listen attentively. Mrs. Hut shuts the lights off and makes everyone put their heads down when the class starts acting up. Mrs. Lenhart rewards the class with "cherry bombs" (a red chewy candy) when the class turns in all their assignments, and Ms. Webb encourages the class to try their best. In all three of these classes the students are well behaved and enjoy what the teachers do for them.
The mentor teacher just helps out when needed and tries to get the students to try it on their own first. Some of the students hate it because they do not want to try and they act like they need more help than they should. Others actually try and if they do not get it they ask for help after that.
My mentor teacher breaks the students up into groups and they do group activites. They are at each table for 15 minutes and then they roate. The students seem to like them.
My mentor teacher uses many techniques. Even though the girls are in hospitality they still work independently and in groups. Some of the activities that Mrs. James has the girls do is cooking, cleaning, laundry, sewing, and knitting. All the girls have certain things that they love to do and most of them do that every single day. The students respond to these activities very well because it is what they love to do. The girls love everything about being in this lab and I don't think that they would change that for anything.
Mr.Raach uses many teaching methods when he is teaching a lesson. He mostly uses a smart board so the students can come up and do things on their own. He also tries to let the students read out loud when he is going over chapters in science or history. The teaching strategies that he uses seem to be working well with the students, not only do they have to think to get the question right, they also have to work on making the right choices as they go along with the lesson.
My mentor teacher teaches language arts and a life skills class. She uses strategies that let the students make the right choices. Also, she lets the students do activities for themselves so they learn to be more independent.
Miss Lefler is a very effective teacher. She uses many different methods to make sure that all of her students' needs are met. She does "centers;" centers are smaller groups that the students are based in depending on their ability levels. There's a writing, math, and computer center. The students just rotate through these until it's time to do something else. The students respond well to centers. Miss Lefler personalizes each day's center for those students and that particular lesson. The students also get one-on-one during this time. Miss Lefler uses effective teaching methods.
I am a teacher at Buckeye Career Center! This is my 10th year of teaching; however, it's my third year as the Teaching Professions instructor. I am a graduate of Kent State University where I received my degree in Social Studies Education. I have also attained my Master's degree in Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction through Walden University. I have been married for ten years. My husband and I have two children, Chloe and Carson. We are also expecting our third child in January.
